Casa Fuzetta Book & Arts Club

The Book & Arts Club | Casa Fuzetta, Olhão, Algarve

Writing and art made at Casa Fuzetta, and the books we can’t wait to read. A retreat house in Olhão, eastern Algarve, where people make things.

Everybody here is making something

There has never been a week at Casa Fuzetta when somebody wasn't quietly creating something.

A novel, three chapters in. A watercolour of rooftops looking towards the church steeples. A first line written at seven in the morning and crossed out by eight.

Most of it heads home with the person who made it. Some of it stays; propped against a wall, or left in the library by accident and never claimed.

This page is for all of it.

The Book & Arts Club isn't a formal membership with strict rules and expectations.

It's a place to celebrate your creations, treasure memories and share inspiration from the vibrant community within the house, Olhao and the world at large.

Don’t be shy - we would love to hear your recommendations.

And don’t hide your talent and accomplishments - we’re here for the full journey. Whether you have taken your first art class at Casa Fuzetta with Dora during a Heal the Healers retreat, or your art is also your lifeblood - as with our friends Meinke Flesseman and Haruka Aoki.

Olhao’s creative community continues to grow. Indeed, in September 2026, the town supported a second season of Open Ateliers (https://www.openateliers.pt/en), offering visitors 3 days of exceptional access to the homes and studios of its resident artists and creatives.

When Heal the Healers Retreats or art retreats come along, we get very excited. They take a long table which vanishes under palettes, colour charts, masking tape and drying paper. Brushes for 25 appear like wands, and colour comes raining while glasses get poured.

We like art, but we like creativity and the chance to spill a bit of love onto the page amongst friends, old and new, a great deal more.

When we first walked through the spaghetti streets of Olhao, we got lost. More difficult than you’d imagine to mess up that badly. But now we get to paint each nook and cranny because art is an opportunity to explore, and we want to take you on that adventure with us.

MADE BY A FUZETTAN (not necessarily at the house…)

Our guests and local friends are a talented bunch, and we love to share their creations and generally raise awareness of their work.

SEND US YOUR WORK

If you've written, painted, photographed, composed or built something since you stayed, we would love to see it.

Painted something here? We wanna see it.

Finished the manuscript you started on the roof? Let us know.

It doesn’t have to be finished; we just want to know you had fun. It doesn’t even have to be good, you did it, that should be good enough for anyone.

Write to stories@casafuzetta.com. We’ll feature a handful every season, here, in our newsletter, our Substack and maybe even in our podcast: Casa Fuzetta: The House of Stories. You may even find a delightful surprise in the post.

Prizes and surprises abound if you find a moment to focus on a little magic.

FOR HOSTS

If you lead writing retreats, art retreats or creative programmes, the house is set up for it: a library that seats a full group, a long kitchen table, terraces on every level, and a town with enough character to fill all your wellies. In case you missed it, don’t forget to check out our Host a Retreat with us page.

Some of our favourite book recommendations

One day I hope we may be able to welcome some of these authors to Casa Fuzetta.

In the meantime, we will take satisfaction from sharing their insights and prose with our guests and community.
